Chiropractic is a holistic health care profession
which focuses on the nervous system, muscular
system and skeletal system. If these 3 systems
are functioning at their optimum, you will
not only notice a reduction in your pain,
but will also move easier, experience more
energy and enjoy an improved quality of life.
As a chiropractor, Dr Kirsten Cloete is passionate
about seeing these positive changes in all
her patients. Her approach to new patients
begins with a thorough history taking and
physical exam, including orthopedic and neurological
tests. A typical chiropractic treatment
may involve the use of several techniques,
tailored to the patient's individual
case, and which focus on correcting imbalances
of nervous, muscular and skeletal systems.

These imbalances may present in various forms,
commonly felt as headaches, back and neck
pain, sciatica, shoulder tension or repetitive
strain injury. Postural issues often play
a major role here, as well as accidents (large
or small), lack of exercise, stress (physical
or emotional) or general wear and tear.
Either way, the combined effect of these
issues may at some point overwhelm the body's
natural coping mechanism and it responds
in pain!
Techniques used in treatment include:

SOT is a unique, holistic system of chiropractic,
researched and developed over many years
by Dr Major de Jarnette and employs low-force
methods to assess and correct imbalances
in the pelvis, spine and cranium.
SOT makes use of indicators in the form of
neurological tests, muscle weaknesses, postural
analysis to determine the underlying problem,
and the best type of adjustment needed to
correct it.

This is the type of adjustment most commonly
associated with chiropractors, and involves
a high velocity, low amplitude movement of
a joint, which often produces a 'popping'
sound.
This 'popping' is actually just air
being released from the fluid surrounding
the joint and is nothing to be concerned
about!

Dry needling is a technique used to effectively
release trigger points, or 'knots'
found in the muscles.
It uses the same needles as acupuncturists
(although the technique itself is completely
different) to activate the body's natural
healing mechanism, and therefore clear out
the tight bands of muscles which often cause
pain.
Patients who suffer with chronic tension
and pain across the neck and shoulders,
as well as the lower back often find great
relief from this type of therapy.

Transeva is fast gaining recognition, particularly
in the sports world, for its effective management
of muscle, tendon and nerve injuries.
The Transeva's effectiveness lies in
its unique ability to bring circulation to
an injured area, whilst at the same rate
clearing out the accumulation of metabolic
waste products.
This prevents the formation of scar tissue
(which can lead to inhibition of muscle contraction)
and the breakdown of the scar tissue which
may have already formed in the area. Transeva
Therapy can be used on its own or in combination
with other chiropractic techniques.
