Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates refers to the application of Pilates to people who have physical pain or problems. At Southfields Physiotherapy it is carried out by qualified physiotherapists and chiropractors who have the knowledge to modify exercises according to your pain or problem.

Please note that our classes are also for the non-injured…… prevention is better than cure!

Most of the therapists who conduct Clinical Pilates sessions at Southfields Physiotherapy have additional post graduate training in Pilates.

Sessions can be in groups of no more than eight people per class, or individually in the form of one-on-one or two-on-one private sessions.

Clinical Pilates sessions are suitable for:
  • Patients who have completed a course of manual treatment and require additional exercise rehabilitation
  • People who are concerned about poor posture or core strength
  • People who would like individual instruction before joining a Pilates group/class
  • Sports people wanting to reduce their risk of injury and up their agility and endurance

Pilates at Southfields Physiotherapy
At Southfields Physiotherapy we run several Pilates classes throughout the week. These include antenatal and postnatal Pilates.

Our Pilates instructors include Chartered Physiotherapists and Chiropractors who have post graduate qualifications in Pilates.

As allied medical professionals they are able to adapt exercises if you have an injury or pain. 


About Pilates
Pilates, named after its founder Joseph Pilates, is a form of dynamic stabilisation retraining. It reconditions the body from the centre/core of the body thus not only increasing body strength, but also by improving the functioning of these muscles.

It proves as an excellent way of treating low back pain and preventing relapse. By strengthening these muscles that support the entire frame of the body, it also helps other conditions such as neck pain and poor posture.

It is a body conditioning exercise programme that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen, scapular region and entire spine improving overall core stability and posture.
