Pilates, named after its creator Joseph Pilates, is a form of dynamic stabilisation retraining that reconditions the body from the central core to prevent the recurrence of and treat lower back pain. It is a body conditioning exercise programme that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen, scapular and entire spine. This improves overall central core stability and posture. Clinical Pilates refers to the application of Pilates to people who have physical pain or problems. It is carried out by qualified, chartered Physiotherapists.
The Chartered Physiotherapists who conduct Clinical Pilates sessions at Southfields Physiotherapy have additional post graduate training in Pilates.
Sessions are conducted on a one-to-one basis in the privacy of your own treatment room.
Clinical Pilates sessions are suitable for:
Patients who have completed a course of manual treatment and require additional exercise rehabilitation
People who are concerned about poor posture or core strength
People who would like individual instruction before joining a Pilates group/class
We also hold Clinical Pilates group classes. Please see the Exercise Classes section for more information and the class timetable.
